The Punjabi government charges power distribution corporations excessive fees.

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) are allegedly overcharging government departments, according to the energy department.

It further stated that government departments around the province have approximately 102,000 electric connections.”The provincial departments consumed electricity valued at over Rs 1.91 billion in the fiscal year 2022–2023 but were required to pay Rs 76 billion for it,” the statement continued.

According to representatives of the Punjab Energy Department, they oversaw the power distribution companies’ alleged overcharging by enacting a new regulation. After verifying the meter reading, the government agencies will settle the electrical bills.

Regarding this, the energy department wrote to the Punjab Assembly, the Civil Secretariat, the Administrative Secretaries, the Punjab Police, and the Department of Prisons. If the institutions’ complaints were not addressed, the energy department requested that they get in touch with it.
