On April 16, President Zardari will speak to the joint session of parliament.

As to the press statement from the President’s House, the joint session of parliament is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 16, at 1600 hours.

In accordance with Article 56(3) of the Constitution, which states that the President “shall address both Houses assembled together and inform the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) of the causes of its summons” at the beginning of the first session following each general election to the National Assembly and at the beginning of the first session of each year,” he would address the joint session.

By virtue of the authority granted by Articles 54 (1) and 56 (3) of the Constitution, President Zardari called a joint session of the legislature.

It is important to note that National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq chaired the previous joint session of Parliament, which was called on March 9th in preparation for the presidential elections.

In September of this year, the State Bank of Pakistan reported that remittances from overseas Pakistanis amounted to 2.8 billion dollars, reflecting a 29% increase compared to the remittances received in September of the previous year.

The SBP reports that, with a cumulative inflow of 8.8 billion US dollars in the first quarter of the financial year, workers’ remittances increased by 38.8 percent compared to the first quarter of the previous year.

Remittance inflows in September 2024 were primarily derived from Saudi Arabia at $681.3 million, the United Arab Emirates at $560.3 million, the United Kingdom at $423.6 million, and the United States of America at $274.9 million.

To clarify, the Finance Division has stated that Chinese engineers are not participating in the IPP Negotiations.

In response to claims in the media that linked the two Chinese engineers who were killed in an explosion in Karachi to the ongoing IPP talks, the Finance Division has provided clarification.

The Finance Division issued a statement in which it stated that the government has been in negotiations with independent power producers (IPPs), one of which being the power plant for whom both of the Chinese engineers worked.

The engineers who passed away, on the other hand, were not taking part in the IPP discussions. Consequently, any impression that is formed to this effect by reporting in the media is incorrect and has no basis in reality.
