For those who want to fast this year, the minimum Sadaqah Fitrana and Fidya was set at Rs 300 per person, or nearly two kilos of wheat flour.

Sheikh Al-Hadith Professor Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali, the chairman of the Shariah Board of Pakistan, made this announcement on Thursday.

He emphasized in a statement the significance of wealthy and philanthropic people giving Fitrana and Fidya according to their financial means; the amounts are Rs 600 for oats, Rs 2,400 for dates, and Rs 4,400 for raisins.

He also described the Fidya rates, which are Rs 9,000 for wheat flour, Rs 18,000 for oats, Rs 72,000 for dates, and Rs 132,000 for raisins, for those who want to fast for the full month of Ramadan.

Fidya for fasting, according to Dr. Jalali, was meant for those who were terminally sick or incapable of fasting and had little chance of recovery.

Fidya could not be a replacement for not fasting, he insisted, thus travelers and anyone temporarily unable to fast had to make up for missed fasts.

The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security set the minimum Zakat payment this year at Rs135,179.

The ministry stated that Zakat will be applicable to savings accounts and profit and loss sharing (PLS) accounts with a balance of at least Rs135,179 while announcing the Nisab for Zakat in 2024. Customers who meet the requirements would thus be required to pay 2.5% in Zakat on the whole amount in their account.
