SJC Case Against Naqvi: Witness Gives CJP Documents Regarding Plot in Question

Published

The comments made by witnesses against former Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi are now being recorded by the Supreme Judicial Council.

Deputy Military Estate Officer Abdul Ghaffar appeared before the Council during the proceedings against Mazahar Naqvi and submitted the documentation pertaining to the 1983 square yard land in Lahore Cantonement.

According to the documents, on June 28, 2022, Justice Retired Naqvi had the plot changed into his name.

Khawaja Haris, Naqvi’s attorney, withdrew from appearing before the Supreme Judicial Council earlier in the proceedings.

Khawaja Haris claims that he only served as Naqvi’s attorney while he was a judge, not after he retired.

Hearings on the subject of actions against retired judges are already being held by a Supreme Court bench.

Judge Naqvi was the target of many misconduct charges brought against him by attorneys and the Pakistan Bar Council.

The ruling in Afia Sheharbano Zia’s case from the Supreme Court in 2023, which said that judges who retire or resign do not come within the purview of the Supreme Judicial Council, has been contested by the Federal Government.
