The PTI founder, his wife Bushra Bibi, and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will appeal their cipher and Toshakhana convictions to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) today.

A special IHC bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear.

The bench previously dismissed the prosecution’s objections to the petitions’ maintainability after PTI founder’s counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar, argued against FIA prosecutor Hamid Ali Shah’s objections.

Special prosecutor Hamid Ali Shah noted that the 1923 law did not allow appeals.

Shah noted that the Secrets Act (Section 10) allowed appeals of trial processes but not convictions.

The prosecutor told Justice Farooq that the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) did not specifically prohibit appeals.

Shah further argued that the two-member split bench could not hear Special Secrets Act appeals. However, Barrister Salman Safdar claimed that CrPC applied.

He also stated that the CrPC would apply to the Official Secrets Act, allowing appeals.
