On Tuesday, the Appellate Tribunal rendered a written ruling regarding Sanam Javed’s request for authorization to run in the Senate election.

In an 11-page ruling, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan declared that Sanam was authorized to run in the general elections.

Justice Hassan stated, “No one can be deprived of fundamental rights in the current situation.”

The judge noted that Umar Sarfraz Cheema’s nomination papers were accepted while he was incarcerated. He said that discrimination against anyone is unacceptable.

The appellant’s husband neglected to file tax returns for 2023, according to a ruling by Justice Hassan. On May 9, he was taken into custody. There were unavoidable reasons why the tax could not be submitted. The judge went on to say that the returning officer ought to have considered the circumstances.

The tribunal directed the Returning Officer to add the appellant’s name to the list of candidates and permitted Sanam to run for Senate from Punjab in the race for women’s reserved seats.
