Ashtar Ausaf Ali appointed as new Attorney General for Pakistan

  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Ashtar Ausaf Ali as the Attorney General for Pakistan.
  • The post of attorney general fell vacant after Khalid Javed Khan’s resignation.
  • Ashtar Ausaf has also served as Advocate General of Punjab twice, from 1998 to 1999 and 2012 to 2013. 

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday approved the appointment of renowned lawyer Ashtar Ausaf Ali as the Attorney General for Pakistan.

The post of attorney general fell vacant after Khalid Javed Khan resigned on April 9 following the departure of the PTI government, saying he had tried to serve the country to the best of his ability and conscience.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ashtar Ausaf Ali had served as special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) on law and justice during 2015-16. He had been the AGP during the tenure of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

He previously served as Advocate General of Punjab twice, from 1998 to 1999 and 2012 to 2013. He also served as Prosecutor General of the province from 2011 to 2012, and as Advisor on Human Rights to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1997.

As Attorney-General, he spearheaded the drafting of the 25th Amendment merging FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, began the settlement process that culminated in the resolution of the $6 billion Reko Diq investment dispute, and the renewal of the GSP Plus trade package. He was, awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2018.

11 are killed and other coal workers are injured in the Harnai blast.

An explosion in the Shahrag neighborhood of the Harnai region of Balochistan on Friday claimed the lives of at least 11 persons and injured a number more.

Police say the explosion happened close to a car that was transporting coal mine personnel. They said that numerous injured people are in critical condition.

After arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers began gathering evidence.

Eleven laborers were confirmed dead in the explosion by the deputy commissioner of Harnai. Swat and Shangla were responsible for the majority of the fatalities and injuries.

Terrorism Out of the Nation: Security Forces Kill 13 Khwarij in Five KP Engagements

In five separate encounters in the region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces have killed thirteen Khwarij.
ISPR reports that security personnel carried out an intelligence-based operation in the general vicinity of Khulachi, Dera Ismail Khan District, in response to the reported presence of Khwarij.
During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the Khwarij Location, resultantly, Five Khwarij including Kharji Shah Gul Alias Rohani were sent to hell.
In two separate encounters in north Waziristan District, fire exchange took place between the security forces and Khwarij in general areas Dosali and Tappi. Resultantly, five Khwarij were effectively neutralized by own troops.

In another encounter that took place in Lakki Marwat District, Two Khwarij were sent to hell.
