A restaurant in Bahrain was shut down by authorities when a niqabi woman was stopped from entering the premises, reported The Daily Tribune.

Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority (BTEA) condemned the action and said it does not discriminate against any identity.

“We reject all actions that discriminate against people, especially regarding their national identity,” it said.

The restaurant also took it to social media to formally excuse the act of discrimination that took place within its premises. In its statement, it was added that the incident was a mistake made by one of its managers and that the restaurant policy did not endorse his behaviour.

The worker has been suspended for the time being.

“We have been serving our customers from all nationalities living in this beautiful Kingdom for over 35 years now. Ours is a place for everyone to come and enjoy with their families and feel at home,” it added.
