Pakistan weather update: When is more rain expected?

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Tuesday warned that the monsoon current is continuously penetrating the country and is likely to shift and intensify in upper and central parts of the country from July 27 (Wednesday).

According to a statement released by the Met Office, under the influence of this weather system, more rain-wind and thundershowers (with scattered heavy falls) are expected from July 27-31 with occasional gaps in areas including:

  • Murree
  • Attock
  • Chakwal
  • Jhelum
  • Sialkot
  • Narowal
  • Lahore
  • Gujranwala
  • Gujrat
  • Sheikhupura
  • Faisalabad
  • Jhang
  • Mianwali
  • Khushab
  • Sargodha
  • Hafizabad
  • M. B Din
  • Sahiwal
  • Okara
  • Bhakkar
  • Layyah
  • Multan
  • Rajanpur
  • Dera Ghazi Khan
  • Bahawalpur
  • Bahawalnagar
  • Rahimyar Khan
  • Khanpur
  • Swat
  • Mansehra
  • Kohistan
  • Abbottabad
  • Haripur
  • Peshawar
  • Mardan

Meanwhile, it further said that more rain-wind and thundershower (with few heavy falls) are expected in Quetta, Chaman, Harnai, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Loralai, Bolan, Kohlu, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Sibbi, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana and Jaccobabad from July 27-31 with occasional gaps.

The Met Office also warned that heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore, and Gujranwala.

Moreover, flash flooding is also expected in local nullahs of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Shakargarh, Sialkot, Narowal, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Dir, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Kashmir from July 27 to 31. 

“Catchment areas of Ravi, Jhelum and Chenab may receive heavy downpour causing the water level to rise significantly during the forecast period,” the PMD said.

It also alerted that rainfall may trigger landslides in Kashmir, Galiyat, Murree, Chillas, Diamir, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore, Ghizer and Skardu during the forecast period.

Travellers and tourists are advised to remain more cautious during the forecast period.

As to the ISPR, the security forces carried out an operation in the Pishin district of Balochistan based on intelligence.

According to the ISPR, a terrorist who was injured during the operation has been apprehended. He is a citizen of Afghanistan. The deceased terrorists were engaged in acts of terrorism against the security forces and carried out deliberate killings of people.

The deceased terrorists were found in possession of weapons, ammo, and explosives.

The ISPR has stated that a sanitization operation is currently underway in order to eradicate any remaining terrorists in the vicinity.

The security forces are resolute in their efforts to eradicate the threat of terrorism from the country.

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice has referred Fawad’s request for an extension of protective bail to a division bench.

The Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the appeal for an extension of protective bail for former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry to be forwarded to a division bench.

Fawad and his wife Hiba Fawad presented themselves in front of Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan.

The individual stated that the LHC had granted him protected bail in 36 cases and urged the court to order an extension of his bail.

The chief judge forwarded his request to the division bench led by judge Alia Neelam.

Prime Minister Shehbaz pays a visit to Karachi and places a floral wreath at Mazar-e-Quaid.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Karachi for a one-day visit today.

The prime minister was greeted at the airport by Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Shortly after his arrival, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a visit to Mazar-e-Quaid, where he offered Fateha and placed a floral wreath. He recorded his perceptions in the book.

During his visit, the prime minister will convene discussions with the governor and the chief minister of Sindh to examine the comprehensive political situation and administrative matters of the province.

In addition, the prime minister will also engage with influential figures from the business community and a delegation from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce.

During these discussions, the Prime Minister will solicit recommendations from the business community regarding the enhancement of the nation’s economy.
